Benefits of WordPress

In 2013, a teacher approached me to see if I would be interested in designing what would turn out to be my first website. It was for a local group called Lions Clubs International who support great causes throughout the UK. I had zero experience creating websites, but leapt at the opportunity and so got to work learning how to code in HTML and CSS.

I had heard about this software called WordPress but refused to investigate due to preconceived notions that it was ‘cheating’. Fast forward eight years, I now nearly exclusively use WordPress to design sites. Today I’m going to explain why

1. SIMPLE TO MANAGE

The immediate benefit to any end-users is how easy it is to keep your website up to date. If you can navigate Microsoft Word, create an email, or design a PowerPoint, then you’ll have no problem getting to grips with WordPress. In turn, this means you can update content, create blog posts, or even manage stock (for eCommerce websites) all from one online platform.

2. ACCESS YOUR WEBSITE FROM ANYWHERE

Perfect for the businessperson on the go, you can access your site anywhere in the world with an internet connection and mobile or desktop device. Whether you’re on a business trip, working from home, or out of the country, you’ll have access to your site 24-hours a day.

3. LIMIT YOUR CONTENT AND SETTINGS

WordPress comes with a host of predefined roles, perfect if your website is experiencing rapid growth. Understanding the user roles is critical as they provide a straight forward way to manage staff and customers access to your website.

  • Administrator – This is the most powerful position of the predefined roles. Administrators have full control over all aspects of the website’s content and functionality. Since this role has full access to website settings, content creation, plugin management and user details, it’s often best reserved for a select few staff members.
  • Editor – The editor is the most senior position charged with the management of website content. They have the power to write, edit and delete posts, publish and remove pages written by them or anyone else. Editors can also approve, alter and delete comments left by users.
  • Subscriber / Customer – This is the most restricted position on your site. It’s often the default position given to new site users, allowing them to create a profile, read its content and post comments. If your site is eCommerce, customers will have a dedicated section to review & manage their orders, update their preferences and save payment details.

4. ADVANCED BLOGGING FEATURES

WordPress is the number one choice for business owners who have a keen focus on blog posting. Creating articles is a breeze with an intuitive post builder, and comments section allows subscribers to engage with topics and discussions.

  •

5. GREAT EXPANDABILITY

Website builders such as Wix, Squarespace or GoDaddy offer quick and easy setups to get your website launched. However, as your business grows often does your need to expand and upgrade your website. With WordPress, you’ll have access to over 58,000 plugins to add enhanced functionality to your site – including many features not offered by ‘quick-setup’ website builders.

6. RANK HIGHER ON GOOGLE

You can easily make crucial SEO changes to your sites meta titles, meta descriptions and keywords. They ensure that your site’s targetting the correct audience, increasing the chance that your site lands on the first page of Google.

CONCLUSION

Given the host of benefits listed above, it’s no surprise that 75 million (or 30%) of all websites created on the world wide web use WordPress CMS. If you’re in the market for a new WordPress site, why not have Pixeljack design it for you? Check out our section about our web design service here!
